A Hero’s Journey

What a great talk, with many lessons learned that will benefit my life. As I look back at my life, I believe that I have done my part to work on building my own hero’s journey to this point. I just understand it much better now. True I wish that I had stumbled upon this earlier in my life but I believe that I have done pretty well, and there is always room for improvement.
Let me share what I have learned, “The hero’s journey is all about you, but its not about you at all.” This was the paradox that was shared and there are great lessons to be learned in this thought.
Those that live a hero’s journey,  -live every moment in their life like it mattered
-live life as if they have an important mission to fulfill
-see struggles as adventures and setbacks as lessons.
“What matters most isn’t the prize at the end, what matters most is how the hero changed in the process.”

The suggestion from those who were older than 60 years were these three lessons,
                                                  -Have I contributed something meaningful?
                                                  -Am I a good person?
-Who did I love and who loved me?

Have I contributed something meaningful? The speaker suggested to never give up your search for your mission to do something good in this world. Find something that will fit your special gifts, but if you don’t know what those gifts are then ask 5 people who know you very well, what it is that you do better then anyone else that that they know. Press them for specifics, and you will find that your true gift is something that you like to do. Use these God given gifts to do something that brings you joy and it will never seem like work.

I really loved the idea like a message in the bottle that you will write to yourself, and when you feel like you getting close to one of your “I WILL NOT’s” then pull it out and read it to yourself so that you will never cross that line.
Also the process of thanking someone that you have never thanked before for something that they did for you. Once written find the person and then read it out loud to them and they will be surprised I’m sure but you will come away from the experience a much better person.
These ideas are great and I am thankful for the chance to really listen and ponder the ideas that were shared.

The reading about perseverance touched my heart as well and that is a task that we can all learn to do better. I am grateful for this class and the lessons that are shared each week.
